Chonyi IDPs have flooded into some of the toughest areas of Ghusho city since the start of the flooding, swelling the population by more than 15%. Shelter has been found in vast, informal tented camps and slums in the city’s outskirts, known for high crime rates and deplorable living conditions in addition to the militia and insurgent activities. These neighborhoods are situated less than 4km (2.5 miles) from the central bazaar. They are urban slums, confined to an area of about 1.3 sq km (0.5 square miles), with more than 10,000 people, living in desperate conditions, far away from the cosmopolitan districts of the capital in Jabali.
