Water Concerns in Haramiya state

16:55 Jun 22 2016 Andhiwa, Haramiya State, Chonyi

Description
Water concerns in Haramiya state.

At 4:55 PM Jun 22, 2016 Andhiwa.

Description: Water Security (H2O), Disease Outbreak (DO)

Early assessments from NGOs on the ground report that two-thirds of the population lack toilets in Haramiya state, a potentially lethal threat after the recent flooding because of the contamination of the water supply from flooding. Andhiwa town is especially dire.

Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) said they expect nearly twice as many cholera cases in the coming weeks as in previous floods in the same region when it said the area experienced its last major outbreak post severe flooding in 2006.

Coupled with earlier reports of large informal settlements in the region--with people seen drinking from streams--may not bode well.
